Our History

Located at the foot of State Street and fronting Library Mall, the University Club has been a focal point of the campus since President Martin Van Hise's call in 1906 for a faculty club to promote fellowship in the campus community. From its inception, the University Club has played a significant role in the history of the University and has been a catalyst in the reaffirmation of the old Wisconsin values of non-discrimination and fair play. It remains to this day a symbol of faculty and staff collegiality. Read the year-by-year history . . .

Our Goal

Today the University Club is an invaluable agency in bringing together the University community by providing a gathering place where members may dine and socialize and by providing educational, cultural, and social programs as a means of promoting the intellectual life of the campus and the community.

Our Members

The UClub strives to achieve this sense of fellowship in a congenial social context,as the living and dining rooms of the University, through its dining and catering venues. As of June 2004, the University Club Board granted a complimentary lunch membership to all UW faculty and staff. These UW Members and the public are welcome to join us for coffee at Club Caffe. Club Dining, leisurely fine-dining, is reserved for UW and Contributing Members and their guests. Dues-paying Contributing Memberships with special benefits are open all faculty, staff, alumni, grad students, and friends of the University.

Our Facility

The elegant environs of this historic building offer a unique setting for wedding celebrations, rehearsal dinners, receptions, bar/bat mitzvahs, meetings and seminars, or any special occasion. Critics applaud the superb cuisine and the service so graciously supplied by our staff. Amenities include full bar, dance floor, dining rooms for groups from 20 to 135/175 guests and receptions to 400.

Our Greeting

We look forward to welcoming you as a member or guest, and hope you will enjoy time spent in this congenial turn-of-the-century treasure whether dining, discussing, dancing, socializing, or sharing.
